Breakthroughs in the Dark Ages
Our goal is to uncover and explore the overlooked scientific and STEM-related innovations of the medieval world. Our mission is to shed light on the ingenuity of this era, and to show the pivotal discoveries that shaped modern science and technology.

Our Mission
The Dark Ages are often thought about as a time of gallant knights, evil kings, and as the period when the Black Plague ravaged Europe’s population. However, this era is rarely recognized for its technological and scientific innovations; not only in Europe but also in other areas of the world, such as China, India, Africa, and the Americas. My goal is to educate interested viewers in the greatest inventions of the Dark Ages - arguably the most misunderstood era, and the one most affected by popular culture. From the invention of the eyeglasses, to the first mechanical clocks, to gunpowder, and the printing press, to even mathematical inventions of the number 0 and base 10, to lesser known inventions such as snow goggles and the fine metalworking of Benin, many inventions have been misattributed to other eras or places, and I aim to fix that problem. By sharing information on these important advancements, I want to celebrate the ingenuity of diverse cultures during this era and challenge outdated stereotypes. Through interviewing professors and other experts on this period, as well as conducting my own research, I want to reach a wider audience by publishing all interviews and findings on this website to achieve my goal of shedding light on the dark ages.
